Andile “The Ace” Chirindah

By Lovemore Dube, Sports Writer

The red-hot Mavericks kept rolling Khanyisile Basketball Courts on Saturday night, sustaining a level of play that has seen the team now win four games in a row.

Starter Andile ‘The Ace’ Chirindah has been brilliant, producing 20 points against Clippers on Saturday as the Mavs won 77-26.

This drive for five has been manufactured by the reliable Chirindah and other members of his roster who continue to punch holes in all their opponents. These Raptors play hard, they’re unselfish and make enough shots when they have to. But above all else, these Mavs defend and have a remarkable ability to respond when opponents are forging their expected runs.

When they play well, the Mavs are capable of manufacturing double-digit leads. When their play slips, those leads are blown. They nearly blew it in the last two quarters against the Clippers, but made key stops down the stretch and the right plays on offence.

Up by 14 and turning the Clippers over with relative ease, the Mavs were at their best in the second quarter.

Legends almost ‘tonned’ City Knights in their men’s A League match winning 97-44 against the struggling Knights. Liberty Nyathi had 27 points on the board while Knights’ Ronald Machona scored 16 for his side.

In the women’s league, Mavs’ winning streak held against lakers Mzansi winning the encounter 51-46. Nicole Nyoni top-scored for the defending champions with 22 points while Juliet Sitiya bagged 13 for her Lakers.
