RECENTLY revived Iwisa Football Club, once the pride of Lwendulu in Hwange take their Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two A campaign to Lukosi Village on the outskirts of the coal mining town.

The club, the only one from Lwendulu Village and carrying the hopes of a football crazy were victorious in their opening fixture.
Coach Thembinkosi Rendo is hopeful that the club will hold out its own in the league.

“We playing a team that lost it’s opening game last week. What compounds our problem going into the fixture is that most of our players do not get to train consistently because of work commitments,” said Rendo.

Their opponents are a typical rural village team, deficient in technique but imposing on physical fitness and endurance.

Iwisa will bank on the experienced trio of Alec Marime, Gilbert Zulu and Tonisani Sibelo all former Premier Soccer League players with Hwange.

The launch of the league was in response to the revival of the Area Zone League (Wafa) as it was felt a lot of young talent was now being lost to social ills as they could not all make it into Hwange FC, Makomo and Motomoto in Division One.

Previously Matabeleland North had one Division Two league feeding into the Zifa Southern Region League.
