MATABELELAND North Zifa Division Two A side Iwisa FC of Hwange have appointed a committee to spearhead their fundraising.

This has been confirmed by Thembinkosi Rendo who spearheaded the revival of the club.

Iwisa had gone into extinction following the collapse of the Hwange Amateur Football Association (Wafa) League a decade ago.

The development robbed many budding talents a chance to develop and be exposed.

Hwange at some stage had Division One and Two local leagues. Among some of the clubs to play in those leagues were Black Aces, Brazil, Kabwe, Ozondiwa, Erietta, Raith Rovers, Bamalilanayo, Giant Killers, Rufaro, Santos, Marathon, Ozondiwa, Nehanda, Mpumalanga, DR Hendry, Rusupuko and Stipnovich.

“We have put in place a committee that will spearhead the fundraising campaign in preparation of us being promoted to Division One,” said Rendo.

Iwisa lead the standings with 52 points from 18 matches. They have been in blistering form just drawing one game.
Second placed Makwika Classics are on a distant 41 points while third placed DRac United have 34 tied with Mpumalanga.

Rendo disclosed that from the beginning of the year they had funded the project from their pockets. He said community and corporate bodies were not forthcoming with financial support despite several letters written to them.

The establishment of the league has seen renewed interest in community clubs and sport in Hwange.
Football has been the mining town’s number one entertainment and pastime.
