BULAWAYO Chiefs continued their dominant form in the Southern Region Women’s Soccer League, getting a brace from Sandra Mhlalauli and goals from five more scorers over Lobengula City Queens at the Chiefs Village last Saturday.

Patience Ndlovu, Patience Nare, Rufaro Maphosa, Nothabo Nkabinde and Lauryn Mupasi each scored to give their side three more points for a total point haul of 21 after seven rounds of matches.

Chiefs started the game brightly, with Mhlalauli and co threatening. The Chiefs’ attack was merciless as they continued searching for the opener.

Amakhosikazi didn’t have to wait long to break through, however, and it was Mupasi who opened the scoring. The forward latched onto a through ball from Nothabo Nkabinde before driving into the box after beating two markers and slotted it home in the 6th minute to give her side a 1-0 lead.

The flood gates opened after this goal and eight minutes later were 2-0 up. Patience Nare headed the ball towards goal and it deflected against a City Queens defender to beat their goalkeeper. In the 18th minutes, Nonhlanhla Fumapano was fouled and Chiefs were awarded a penalty that was converted by Maphosa for 3-nil lead.

Their goalkeeper is caught off guard. She only wakes up to hear the crowd cheering Patience Ndlovu who is racing closely behind the ball from a long through pass delivered by Leona Arimon. By halftime, Chiefs were 6-0 up and the second half became a mere formality for them.

In other league matches, second placed Loxion Vipers beat Highlanders Royals 4-1 at home while Lee Mangena’s Street Set prevailed 2-0 over New Orleans. Ubuntu Queens beat Western Rangers 6-0 to stay in third place.

Two matches featuring ZRP Bulawayo and Blackboots as well as Bulawayo Queens vs Las Palmas were postponed.
