15-YEAR-OLD Keegan Shutt made the cut at the R2 million FBC Zimbabwe Golf Open currently underway at Royal Harare Golf Club.

He joined 13 other Zimbabweans who also made the cut which was set at five-over.

The 13 who include Ruan Cairns, Brian Gondo, Simon Katembenuka, Benjamin Follet-Smith and Nyasha Muyambo.
Shutt made the cut after carding a second round three-over 75 was enough to secure a place with 65 other golfers in the third round. His second round 75 included five bogeys, a double bogey, an eagle and two birdies.

Winner of the Arenel Maxi Open and the Poweride Elephant Hills Golf Classic, Ignatius Mketekete is a notable absentee in the third round after he finished four-over 76 in the second round to miss the cut. Mketekete’s total of seven-over from his two rounds was not enough to see him make the cut.

Luca Filippi carded seven-under-par 65 at Chapman Golf Club to claim a five-shot lead at the FBC Zimbabwe Open heading into the third round today.

The 23-year-old, who began the day in a tie for fifth after shooting 68 at Royal Harare Golf Club on the first day, was just one-under-par through nine holes on Friday.
Filippi missed a short birdie putt on the 10th before birding the 11th and 12th holes, picked up an eagle on the par-five 14th, and two more birdies on 16 and 18.

Tied at 10th overall, top Zimbabwean golfer Cairns heads into round three of the R2 million Sunshone Tour event three-under taking over from Katembenuka as the best placed local.

With three birdies in the second round on the 2nd, 10th and 16th holes Cairns overcame a bogey on the 1st hole to card 70 in the round.

Katembenuka had four bogeys in the secons round to finish one-over after carding 76. He bogeyed the 6th, 8th, 11th and 17th holes having gone intonthe round tied for 8th overall after a first round three-under.

Bulawayo Golf Club’s Gondo had five bogeys in the second round on the 5th, 9th, 11th, 15th and 18th to finish three-over in the second round. Birdies on the 3rd, 10th and 12th kept him in the hunt and ensured he made the cut.

Another local, Muyambo was tied in 19th place after carding one-under 71. Five birdies and four bogeys summed up his second round.
